Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan Met with Kirsti Narinen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland to the Republic of Armenia
During the meeting, the parties reviewed successfully implemented joint projects and discussed new opportunities for cooperation.
The Minister highlighted the importance of the initiative “Strengthened Protection and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity in Armenia in Line with European Standards”, implemented within the framework of the EU Twinning Programme in cooperation with the Czech Republic and Finland. The programme has contributed to enhancing the institutional and professional capacities of the Ministry of Environment of the RA and to strengthening the implementation of Armenia’s international commitments under the roadmap of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement with the EU. The second component of the programme, implemented by the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE), made a significant contribution to strengthening the institutional framework for the effective implementation of the new biodiversity legislation.
The meeting also addressed the “Early Warning for All” initiative, which represents an important step toward achieving the global goal of ensuring, by 2027, that everyone has access to life-saving early warning systems for weather, water, and climate-related hazards
The Minister presented the composition of the COP17 Organizing Committee to the Ambassador, after which the organizational aspects of the conference were discussed, with particular emphasis on the active involvement of civil society. Hambardzum Matevosyan expressed gratitude to the partners for their effective cooperation and readiness to advance Armenia’s environmental agenda.
